Vancouver Fraser Port Authority Supports Families Rebuilding After Violence with $25,000 Grant to Hope’s Place

Funding will help provide stable housing and long-term support for single mothers and children leaving abusive relationships

Leaving an abusive relationship takes enormous courage. For many women and families, it is only the first step. Without safe housing, financial stability, and ongoing support, families remain at risk of returning to unsafe situations or facing homelessness. This is where Hope’s Place comes in.

North Shore Crisis Services Society (NSCSS) is grateful to announce a $25,000 grant from Vancouver Fraser Port Authority in support of Hope’s Place, NSCSS’s second-stage housing program providing longer-term supportive housing for women and families rebuilding after abuse. The program offers fully furnished family suites in a confidential location, giving families the stability and breathing room they need to heal and move forward.

About The Program

At Hope’s Place, families can stay for 18 to 24 months. During this time, NSCSS staff work closely with each family to support goals related to employment, education, childcare, counselling, income supports, and navigating complex legal systems, including family law, custody, and safety planning.

The impact extends to children as well. Remaining on the North Shore allows children to stay connected to their schools, friendships, and community supports during a time of significant transition and healing. For children with disabilities or additional support needs, this continuity can be especially important.

The women at Hope’s Place are determined, resourceful, and deeply committed to creating better futures for their families. During their time in the program, many have completed post-secondary degrees, secured employment, started small businesses, and strengthened community connections. They are not defined by what they’ve survived, but by what they are building next.

Behind the scenes, NSCSS ensures every suite remains safe, comfortable, and well maintained so families can focus on healing and growth without worrying about basic needs.

The outcomes we work toward are simple: stable housing, improved financial security, stronger emotional wellbeing for children, and increased safety and autonomy for women rebuilding after violence. Success means families leave Hope’s Place equipped with the confidence, resources, and stability needed to move into long-term housing and continue building independent lives.

Our Heartfelt Thanks

We are deeply grateful to Vancouver Fraser Port Authority for their generous $25,000 grant in support of Hope’s Place. Their partnership helps ensure families leaving violence have more than just a safe place to land. It helps create the conditions for lasting stability and recovery. Support like this strengthens our entire community and brings us closer to a future where everyone can feel safe to go home.
