Break the Cycle: Ride + Run for Gender Justice June 2023

NSCSS and NSMBA Announces New BREAK THE CYCLE Challenge, a First-of-its Kind Ride + Run Event Series for Gender Justice.

[North Vancouver, BC]: North Shore Crisis Services Society today announced a new philanthropic initiative – BREAK THE CYCLE – that celebrates gender equity in sports and advances safe housing and support services for women and children surviving violence on the North Shore. This initiative runs until June 30th and is hosted in partnership with the North Shore Mountain Bike Association.

This 3-part event series will include 2 PRIDE-friendly events (online and in-person), 4 Social Badger Challenges on Trailforks and Strava, and a $20,000 50/50 Online Raffle Contest.

“BREAK THE CYCLE is grounded in our purpose to ensure that every woman and child has a safe place to call home,” says Sandra Lee, Manager of Communications and Development, NSCSS. “We see first-hand the courage and strength it takes for women and single mothers with children to leave abuse. In addition to raising funds for our programs, BREAK THE CYCLE is one way we can help people like our clients feel remembered, cared for, and a part of our community.”

Local female artist, Danielle Adams, has designed the campaign’s artwork, which beautifully celebrates women and 2SLGBTQI+ athletes, as well as North Shore’s beloved mountains. Adam has designed each of the Social Badger Challenges and donated an original illustration titled, “Bike Babes” to support NSCSS’ fundraising efforts. North Shore brands such as Arc’teryx BC, Steed Cycles, and more have also provided gifts and popular products to encourage donations to the charity.

BREAK THE CYCLE Event Series includes:

WOMEN, TRANS, AND NON-BINARY RIDERS – Thursday, June 8th: WTNB Fiver Series on Fromme + Apres Party, hosted by the NSMBA.

PRIDE RIDE: 10 KM Distance Challenge – Weekly Social Badger Challenges starts Sunday, June 4th. Each weekly challenge will be released on Sundays on Trailforks and Strava.
